How To Get Your Small Dog Used To Wearing Clothes?

By Julie R. Decker

Dress your small pup in cute pet fashions. When you're out and about, others will notice your cute little one, before they even realize you are there! This is a great conversation starter and I'm sure your little pup will love all the attention!

Training tips for putting on ANY type of clothing in public:

Reward with treats, of course, after practicing A LOT, before going out and about.

To earn his or her trust, be gentle.

Select clothes that are easy to put on and take off. Look for clothes with generous sized arm holes and velcro closings or snaps .

Select for comfort, even though style is cute and sweet.

You should not have any problem getting out a sweater or raincoat, if needed, when you're away from home, once your dog is accustomed to getting clothes on and off at home.

Fashion for dogs is like fashion for adults and children, it is all about them. Take their personality into account.

My long haired miniature dachshund, Cocoa, loves to run through mud puddles. She is like most children in this way. I'm sure you can understand why she doesn't wear hair bows or cute little dresses. She does, however, wear a bright harness t-shirt, so we know where she is. Her colors blend in TOO well with the winter months and it adds safety for her, as well.

If you have a male dog, don't dress him in pink. A masculine outfit is perfect for charming the little female dogs. Don't embarrass him in front of the little girls! Make him stand out this year with a cute, funny, or scary Halloween costume! - 29895
