Choosing Large Dog Toys

By Marina Tate

Large dog toys are a must, especially if your dog is left alone at home often. They've got a lot of energy just collecting inside them that could end in misbehavior if you are not careful. Big dogs need to play and if you don't have the time to play with them, you should consider at least a few toys.

Large dog toys need to be tougher and stronger than normal dog toys. These dogs are bigger and stronger than their lapdog counterparts and thus need tougher toys to play with to avoid injury and constant replacement.

The Chuckle is a good place to start in terms of large dog toys. It is a durable and noisy toy that will be sure to keep them entertained for hours. Both ends of the purple bone have inner-facing rubber prongs that allow for a neat trick: snack dispensing. Just put some treats or kibble in the prongs and while your dog plays with it, random food will pop out. It's made of natural rubber and is best for dogs twenty pounds or heavier, smaller dogs just won't be able to play with it.

If The Chuckle doesn't seem much your taste, then consider the Huck Large. Made from a unique material called Zogoflex, it's the kind of toy that will keep your dog on its toes. Essentially, the Huck Large is a rather heavy ball with random grooves all over its surface to give it an unpredictable bouncing pattern. Just toss it and watch your dog go nuts and try to chase it down. If your dog likes to play in the water, this is also an option as it floats. The Huck Large is actually so tough that the manufacturers offer a full replacement guarantee.

There is another toy on the market made of the same material as the Huck Large: The Hurley. But this time it is a bone. It is said to have the fun of a bone and a ball, which makes it perfect for just about any dog. It floats in water and is quite resilient. This is a great choice for any dog who loves to gnaw, but also loves to play fetch.

You can find large dog toys in every pet store, as well as some other department stores. If you do not have any luck checking retail stores, also consider shopping online. Amazon.com, as always, has a large selection. RRuffntuffdogtoys.com is another place to shop for those kinds of toys. The important part in all of this is that your dog is happy, and while some toys may not do well with your dog there is sure to be one out there for both of you. - 29895
